Google Chronicle Security Operations: pricing, ownership, MITRE coverage
Byline: Oliver Wakefield-Smith, Founder, Digital Signet.
Google Security Operations (Chronicle)[5] no longer sells on the per-employee model it was known for. Google's own package documentation states that pricing for all three packages is based on ingestion volume and points buyers at a sales representative, so there is no list rate to quote. What Google does publish is what each package contains: Standard carries 12 months of hot data retention, Enterprise adds UEBA, curated detections and Gemini in Security Operations, and Enterprise Plus adds Google Threat Intelligence Enterprise Plus, advanced data pipeline management and customer-managed encryption keys. The bundled 12-month retention is still the structural TCO advantage at high ingest volumes, where Splunk and Sentinel charge per-month per-GB of warm storage[6].
Mandiant inside
Mandiant Threat Intelligence is bundled into the Enterprise Plus tier. For a buyer who would otherwise procure threat intel separately, that bundle is the number that decides the deal, not the ingest unit rate.
Where Chronicle loses
Splunk ES content library still beats Chronicle on detection breadth. For a US mid-market shop without Google Workspace the integration premium is real. Chronicle's argument is the bundled retention; Splunk's is the ecosystem.
What shifted
Pricing moved off the per-employee Chronicle model: Google now prices all three packages on ingestion volume and publishes no rate card. Mandiant fully integrated into Enterprise Plus, which also carries Google Threat Intelligence Enterprise Plus and customer-managed encryption keys. Gemini in Security Operations ships from Enterprise upward. Standard's 12 months of hot retention remains a structural TCO advantage at high ingest volumes.
