Best SIEM for a Microsoft 365 / E5 shop
The E5 entitlement[3] changes the math. Sentinel is rarely the wrong answer for a Microsoft-aligned shop.
The E5 benefit
5 MB/user/day free Sentinel ingest. At 1,000 users that is 150 GB/month of free ingest. Defender XDR data flowing into Sentinel is free too. For most mid-market Microsoft shops the floor on Sentinel ingest cost is under what they thought.
Unified portal
Defender XDR plus Sentinel unified portal[30] is GA. The SOC analyst workflow runs end-to-end inside one console; the cost of choosing a non-Microsoft SIEM has gone up correspondingly.
When you still need non-Microsoft
Heavy non-Azure cloud telemetry (large AWS estate). Hard requirement for Splunk-ES-class detection content out-of-the-box. Regulatory residency requirements that Azure Government does not meet.
